A combined team representing both genders of Warwickshire travelled to Victory Park BC in Stroud to take on a mixed side from Gloucestershire. The Bears had the better of the day winning 112-79.

Doug Anderson (Grange), Liz Crispin (Wolvey), Yvonne Bromfield (Rugby) and WCBA President Nigel Hewitson made an excellent start to lead by nine shots midway through. The next five ends saw Hewitson and co increase their advantage to fourteen shots and they finished strong to complete a 25-7 victory. Sam Bridges (Bilton), Sigrid Thomas (Rugby Thornfield), Lee Ingleston (Rugby Rail) and Christine Cooke (Southam) recovered from dropping an early six to lead by eight after eleven ends. The sides exchanged shots over the remaining ends leaving Cooke’s rink with a 22-13 win.

Joy Cooke (Sherwood Park), WWBA Treasurer Di Medhurst, Tom Duggins (Rugby Thornfield) and WCBA Senior Vice President David Wigman led by four eight ends and took a five on their way to a ten shot advantage after ten ends. Gloucestershire scored a four on the next end but Wigman and co recovered and kept clear of their opponents to win 20-12. Margaret Stephens (Lillington), WCBA Aubrey Brookhouse, Margaret Colvin (Snitterfield) and WCBA Assistant Secretary Bob Allcock were level after nine ends but slipped to a two shot deficit after thirteen ends. A single and treble took the Bears two ahead but Gloucestershire scored a brace of doubles to lead by two heading into the last end. Allcock and co finished strong but could only secure a 14 all draw.

John Hurst (Matrix), Michael Foster (Bilton), WWBA Match Secretary Jenny Corn and WWBA President Debbie Bloxham were six adrift after nine ends but fought back to lead by three with five ends left. Gloucestershire levelled but Bloxham’s rink restored a two shot advantage with one end to go, unfortunately they had to settle for a share of the spoils, drawing 18-18. Christine Harding (Rugby Thornfield), Ian Brown (Kings Heath), WCBA Secretary Michael Jackson and Elspeth Summers (Stratford) were level after six ends but trailed by three six ends later. The last six ends were mixed, neither side able to take control, Summers and co losing 15-13.
