The Bears latest inter-county friendly saw them travel to Banbury Borough BC to take on Oxfordshire, unfortunately the hosts won on all six rinks as Warwickshire lost 99-140.

Ken Tredgold (Southam), Match Secretary Mike Hall, Competition Secretary Sam Bridges and Past President Geoff Moran recovered from a poor start to reach thirteen ends on nine all. The hosts moved seven shots ahead with two ends to play but Moran and co scored a double and treble to cut the deficit to two, final score 16-18. Steve Martin (Grange), Nick Butcher (Kineton), Roger Percival (Ambleside) and Past President Brian Mace Humphries were nine down in four ends but reduced that to three three ends later. Another good period saw the hosts move eleven shots with six ends to play. The Bears finished strong but could only cut the deficit to two, Mace Humphries rink losing 20-22.

President Peter Vale Humphreys, Fred Bannister (Lillington), John Wylie (Snitterfield) and Past President Phil Green had a mixed score but reached ten ends three shots up. A good spell by Oxfordshire took them seven shots ahead but Green and co brought that back to a single shot with two ends left. It was Oxfordshire that took those ends to win 24-18. Mike Onions (Bidford), Dennis Wilkinson (Stoke), Tom Duggins (Executive) and John Gockelen (Grange) didn’t score in the first seven ends, dropping twenty shots. A brief cut back by nine shots but with six ends to play the deficit was seventeen. Another fightback by Gockelen’s rink cut the final deficit to eight, final score 19-27.

Barry Weston (Matrix), Paul Brown (Sherwood Park), Dave Cottle (Stoke) and Malcolm George (Snitterfield) trailed by eleven after eleven ends, with five ends to go the deficit had opened up to fifteen.
