President's Message 2019

Geoff Moran

Gentlemen,

It is an honour, a privilege and a great pleasure for me to be elected as your President for 2019.

It is my intention to uphold the high standards and traditions of the Association set by my predecessors. They have all given me their support and the inspiration to carry out this prestigious role. A sincere thank you to the Norgren Bowls Club for their nomination and to those members within the club who have supported me. I would like to wish my Presidential team all the best for this coming season, Senior Vice Clive Faulkner, Junior Vice Peter Vale-Humphreys, and Immediate Past Don Darby. Teamwork is the key in every form of life.

The Presidential team cannot function without a supportive executive made up from the far reaches of the county. Michael Jackson does sterling work as Secretary and Treasurer and was delighted he was awarded an Honorary Life Membership, well deserved, at this year's AGM. I would like all clubs to give support to the Competition Secretary Rob Maries in providing their greens for the later stages of the competitions and hope the competitors make what is a difficult job easier. I will give my full support to Martyn Murley as Warwickshire Team Manager and his assistant manager Rob Robinson. It would be wonderful to return to winning ways and bag a trophy or two at the Nationals, as a team or as individual entries.

It would be nice for all clubs to really promote their facilities for younger bowlers, we must move with the times, we could be more appealing for the youngsters, coloured shirts, coloured trainers, affordable memberships etc. We have waived the entrance fees In the competitions this year to try and get more youngsters involved in competitive bowls. They are the future of our bowls Association.

Any ideas from members of the association for improvement in recruitment campaigns will be seriously considered by the executive.

My Charity this year will be Disability Bowls England which provides exceptional support to our disabled bowlers. I hope that you will all help this excellent cause by donating generously throughout the year in order to give something back to the sport we all love.

Finally, I cannot finish without special thanks to my better half Celia without whose help and support I could not tackle this most challenging role. It will be a pleasure visiting the many clubs and meeting Warwickshire bowlers throughout the County. My tour this year is to the Isle of Wight 11th-18th May. I hope all who participate enjoy. I would also like to thank publicly Roger Powell and his wife Gina for all their hard work in organising the county tour once again.

My very best wishes to you all for good health, good bowling and hopefully good weather for a memorable 2019. I look forward to seeing you all on the green
