The Bears travelled the relative short distance to Worcester BC to face Worcestershire in the Balcomb Trophy (inter-county double rink). The rinks for the Bears were Matt Wells (Rugby), Dave Fallon (Nuneaton), Mark Ireland (Erdington Court) and Tom Millership (Rugby) with the other rink as Mark Smith (Avenue Leamington), Dan Box (Little Compton), Martin Timms (Welford) and Andy Smith (Avenue Leamington).
A good start saw Smith’s rink four shots up after five ends with Millership and co all square. At the midway point the overall score was level, Millership up by one and Smith down by one. Heading into the final five ends Millership had increased his lead to four shots while Smith had taken the lead and build up a five shot advantage, overall the Bears nine up. With the final three ends to play Smith still had a five shot advantage but Worcestershire had fought back to cut Millership’s lead to one, the Bears six up overall. With one end to go Millership was now five shots down, though the Bears held an overall three shot lead thanks to Smith leading by eight. Warwickshire completed the win, both rinks taking singles on the final end, Smith and co winning 23-14 with Millership’s rink 18-22 down.
